The global prostitution industry makes US$186 billion per year, according to Havocscope. But how does this billion dollar industry trickle down to the workers who make it possible?

To find out, we analyzed 80,000 profiles of female sex workers on 200 websites, covering 55 countries, from escort directories to agencies and some of the most recognized international sites.

Escorting Hourly Rates Around the World

These prices aren’t “the standard”, rather the aproximate average of prices published in 2019 by the many escorts on the web. There for this map is not a guide for deciding what to charge for your services.

Now, it’s worth mentioning that we are not talking about prostitution in general, but about independent escorts or legally authorized agencies. These are not prices that you can find on the streets late at night, or in the famous red light districts, so they are much higher than one would think.

To make visualization easier, all prices are converted to US dollars, and reflect only the costs for 1 hour of service, without including transportation costs, or extra services.

Countries Where Prostitution Is Legal 2019

Prostitution laws vary across the world. Some countries outright prohibit prostitution. Other nations such as France, Canada, Iceland, and Norway do not ban the selling of sex but made it illegal to pay for it.

Prostitution is legal in about 52% of the world, limitedly legal in 12% and illegal in 35%. Even Amnesty International says prostitution is a human right, although some don’t agree.

Most of South and North America have legal prostitution policies or laws, except for United States where it’s limitedly legal.

West europe is mostly legal as well. Limitedly legal in France, Ireland and the UK.

However in most (not all) of Asia and Africa prostitution is illegal.

You can check specific countries in this list of 100 countries.

Sex Keeps Getting Cheaper?

Some have claimed sex is getting cheaper around the world, basing their arguments on a study (similar to ours) from the Economist in 2014).

They claim that “In 2006, the price for one hour of sex with a female prostitute averaged $340 around the globe. Today, the average rate is down to $260.”

There are several reasons cited on the study for why the price of prostitution has fallen. Including the migration of poor sex workers into wealthier countries, which has pushed prices down.

The truth in 2019 although, is much more revealing.

In the early 2000s online advertisement for sex workers was limited to “VIP escorts” and escort agencies.

Today, with sites like ours, you can create an online profile in 5 minutes using your phone’s internet. There are thousands of sites like Pasion around the world. The market escort online advertisement has tripled since 2006.

This means women from a very broad spectrum, from each corner of society, are now advertising online.

The service provided by this new wave of online sex workers is much more “casual”, much like what one would get picking a girl on a street corner. Plenty of them giving out “promos” or fifteen minute services.

Diversity in prices comes from diversity in services, there for, declining the average price for an hour of sex with a female prostitute around the globe. And not because escorts are charging less.

I’d date to say it’s actually the opposite. VIP Escorts keep charging what they’d always charged. Yet, the new wave of online call girls are charging a bunch more of what they would charge on the street, in an agency, or in some bar/location.

How much does the most expensive prostitute cost and why?

A really expensive prostitute can charge up to USD 3,000 for an hour of her services. This girls, although they are few, can be found online if you search enough (in first world countries, of course).

Then you have girls that play in other leagues, they can charge tens of thousands of dollars to guys such as football stars, millionaries and the like. This is not something one can access easily. They are mostly actrecess, models or some kind of ‘public figure’.

There’s also the Sugar Babies, which are not prostitutes per se, but they do exchange sexual services, sometimes for tens of thousands a month plus other expensive gifts, cars, electronics, clothes, etc.

The most expensive prostitute it is said to have been Michelle Braun. Back in the day she used to be the most well known Madam in Hollywood. Having charged for her own services up to USD 50,000 for an appointment, and for the girls she managed up to USD 43,000 for date.

Where are the world cheaper prostitutes?

The world cheaper prostitutes are in Asia and Africa. Specifically in countries where’s it’s illegal to be a sex worker, wich comes with the downfall of creating free terraing for human trafficking, pimping and exploitation, by depriving these women of the most basic human rights.

As you saw in the map, we have almost no information about most of Africa, because their online presence is not existant.

Escort Prices in North America and Central America

You might be wondering: “But you said the most expensive escorts charged up to $3.000 for an hour”, those are a very tiny fraction. Within the same region, prices charged by escorts tends to avarage USD 250.

However, rates vary (and a lot) in the United States, depending on the state and the chosen escort class. The hour of service ranges from 200 to 1000 dollars.

In Canada and Mexico, the minimum fee is a little lower, generally around 260 canadian dollars ($ 200 US) and 2000 mexican pesos ($ 100 US).

On the other hand in Central America, even in the same country, you can see very different prices. For example, in Costa Rica for more than 100 dollars it is possible to request the minimum rate of an escort, but there are also agencies where your VIP girls charge from 350 to 500 dollars an hour in the city of San Jose.

On average, for less than 200 you can get better quality service in any Central American country. Panama and Costa Rica have the highest rates in the region, while Honduras and Guatemala have the lowest rates (less than $ 100 for the minimum service).

Escorting Rates in South America

Obviously, there are VIP services in South America, that charge $ 400 an hour or more, but on average escort services go from $ 80 to $ 150 for one hour of sex.

In South America prices remain fairly stable, regardless of the country. With the exception of Brazil, which has the highest rates in the continent, the rest of the countries present a rates close to 100 dollars.

Colombia cheaper than Venezuela?. Although it seems incredible given the economic crisis that Venezuela is experiencing, currently it is more expensive to be with an escort in Bogotá than one in Venezuela.

A reflection of how capitalism is maintained in Venezuela but in the highest socio-economic circles alone, since it is known that hundreds of Venezuelan prostitutes (and many who start into prostitution) come to Colombia each year and compete for super-cheap prices. This has created a series of conflicts with Medellin escorts.

You would think in Uruguay clients are happy with current prices. However, we have read the forums and a large number of uruguayan clients are “totally outraged” that an escort can charge the “exorbitant sum of $ 80” for 1 hour of service. They would be happy if they all charged “$35 tops”, even some say that either pay that, or directly abstain from hiring.

Now guess what? Since we are in touch with over 400 escorts in Uruguay, we are aware that escorts have been continually increasing their rates for the past years.

Callgirl Prices in Europe

In addition to the quality of the service and the pleasure provided, beauty and youth are factors that, obviously, affect the rates.

300 dollars is the approximate price of an escort in Paris, France, although whoever looks for divine women like of movies or dreams, for 500 euros (almost 600 dollars) can make it come true.

If are willing to pay anything for 60 minutes of excitement under the charms of a girl who is practically a model, European escorts will love you. The most expensive and of the best level are angels of sculptural bodies.

Belarusian escorts up to €300 despite being Illegal. We were called out by Belaruspartisan and Thinktanks about not having Belarus in our map.

Now, prostitution in Belarus is common but illegal, which makes going public online not be the best idea. Escorts that promote themselves online are mostly “high class” charging from €100 to €300 per hour.

Czech Republic Flag Czech Republic

While prostitution is legal in the Czech Republic, organized prostitution is prohibited (brothels are officially illegal). Which may make these not the ideal places to work at, or to find company.

It would be most reliable to look online for independent escort websites, whether you’re a sex worker or a customer. The best sex dating directory in Prague advertise 300+ escorts and erotic massage providers in Czech Republic.

Greece’s prostitutes hit hard by financial crisis. “In 2012, it would require an average of 39 euros” for a client to hire a prostitute in a brothel, Mr. Lazos said, “while in 2017 just €17 — a 56 percent decrease”, said Grigoris Lazos, a professor of criminology at Panteion University in Athens.

The trade is more desperate now because of Greece’s lost decade since the 2008 financial crisis, which has left no profession unscathed. The collapsed economy and the arrival of tens of thousands of migrants have pushed even more women into prostitution — even as prices have fallen through the floor.

The same in Germany, where although the average is 250-350 dollars per hour, there are several directories of escorts whose costs amount to 500-600 euros per hour, ie about 700 dollars.

But even more interesting is the fact that German legislation has allowed agencies like Cinderella Escorts to auction the virginity of girls from all over the world. The supposed record in money spent is by a Hong Kong businessman with 3.7 million dollars. Although it is believed to be a hoax to promote the agency.

The UK concentrates the Highest Levels of Sex Work Activism. While prostitution on the UK is mostly legal, some activities related to it are not, leaving prostitutes unprotected in everyday situations.

In response, sex workers have organized themselves in all possible ways, being SWARM collective (Sex Workers advocacy and resistance movement) as the best known of them.

Escorts in Asia, Oceania and Africa

Now: we didn’t get as much data in here as in the previous ones. Information was much harder to gather since a great amount of these countries haven’t really developed online advertising for sex workers.

Japan is the most expensive Asian nation to request an escort and the Philippines one of the cheapest. The best performance is obtained in Thailand, where the minimum service is 2 hours , costing about $ 150 for two “shots”.

So ask for an hour, the Thais will surely charge you for two, but at a price even lower than the average rates of most Asian escorts, located at $ 200-300 for one hour of sex.

African countries such as Nigeria and Egypt maintain relatively affordable fees of approximately $ 150 , half of what the minimum services of escorts in South Africa.

The avg. price in New Zealand is 450 NZD ($300), but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other options. The market is pretty big since prostitution is allowed and regulated all around the country, giving escorts the chance to move around and charge different prices accordingly.

As you might expect adult entertainment in Wellington is plenty, with online escort directories and street solicitation.

India houses over 600,000 active prostitutes. Mumbai and Calcutta have the largest brothel industry on the planet, with more than 100,000 prostitutes working only in Mumbai. And a total estimate of 657,000 in the entire territory.

Top Sex Tourism Destinations

Some people travel to see different landmarks, hear different languages and taste different cuisines.

Some travel to have sex with women all over the world. Many countries have become synonymous with sex tourism and are travel destinations purely for that industry.

In the Dominican Republic, prostitution is legal for adults 18 years or older. However, many of the sex workers on the streets are underage. Asking for a hooker’s ID isn’t the ideal way to start off a sexual encounter, but it’s a necessary evil to avoid minors.

In Costa Rica, sex workers are part of the culture. It’s not uncommon for teen men to have their first sexual encounter with a prostitute, paid for by his father or close relative, who is eager to get his son into manhood. There’s a lot of diversity amoung sex workers and a different feel to it than in the rest of the world.

In Cuba, prostitutes have all the comfort to the get busy with their clients. They work around ‘love hotels’, wich offer anonymous pay-by-the-hour bedrooms. Although prostitution is not legal, the Cuban government doesn’t police these areas and they’re free to do their will. In fact, Cuba announced its intentions to open state-run ‘love hotels’, to cut down on the ever-popular practice of public sex.

Thailand, Cambodia, and the Philippines are famous sex destinations for their red light districts. Strip clubs, brothels and bars make these spots adult playgrounds for the sexually adventurous.

In Thailand, mostly young women congregate at ‘girly bars,’ where they throw themselves on all types of men. They laugh at all their jokes and let them buy them drinks, then they agree to have sex for a few extra bucks.

Prostitutes in the Philippines typically masquerade as ‘go-go girls’. In these bars, there’s a stage on which the ladies dance. Then one can ask the manager to meet someone in particular, to chat with them and agree on the price and services

What do you make of all this?

How well do you think this map reflects the economic reality of your country? Remember that these prices are only an average. In my opinion it says more about each society, it’s laws and economy, than what it says about what an escort should expect to charge in X country, or what kind of service is given.

One fact that the price differences leave in plain sight is that the word “escort” does not mean the same in first world cities like Munich, that in smaller cities like Montevideo.

While some countries prefer terms such as “prepago,” the term “escort” in South America is used to refer to independent sex workers who advertise their services online, which in English are commonly called “call girls”.
